The design brief requires you to demonstrate how forward looking landscape architecture provides a new geological force, Human Geology. You will demonstrate that good design can enhance the quality of the landscape experience, and will provide an exemplar in which to study
new ways at utilising floodplains as a sensory , interactive experience enriching the life of the local community and enhancing biodiversity. The design brief has been drawn up as competition by Datum 57.3, a consortium of sensitive developers who are looking at design innovation as a device
that can change the economic value of land. The developers would expect the following environmentally sensitive elements to be incorporated into the scheme as benchmarks of contemporary design.
• enhanced / new wetland habitat
• make a stronger connection of the river to the town centre
• utilisation of rainwater harvesting and watergardening
• mobility
• flood water events, especially how you interpret the 100 year flood event and the more frequent episodes of flooding.
• habitation
• relationship to boundary spaces
• ideas for improving the quality of the recreational experience
• increasing biodiversity
• response to context and existing vegetation
• utilise the geometry of existing buildings
• Identify where contemporary and innovative thinking on the subject sits
within the design processless
